Indoor Air Pollution is Higher than Outdoors
When it comes to indoor air quality, ignorance may be bliss, but it is not healthy. The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has stated that indoor levels of air pollutants may be 2-5 times higher than outdoor levels. They also note that indoor pollutant levels can be 100 times greater than those outdoors. This is a concern since most people spend up to 90 percent of their time indoors and because most indoor air pollution comes from inside the building. Many adhesives, carpeting, upholstery, manufactured wood products, copy machines, pesticides, cleaning agents, air fresheners, perfumes, etc., emit volatile organic compounds (VOCs). Some of these (e.g., benzene) are known carcinogens.
While the public generally does not perceive indoor air pollution to be a significant health risk, experts at the EPA disagree and place indoor air and consumer product exposure at the top of the list of workforce health risks. Fortunately, it is a risk you do not have to take. We can test the air in your facility and, if necessary, recommend solutions to improve it so you, your clients and your employees can breathe healthier air.
